Overview:

Every year the markets provide investors with lessons on the winning investment strategies. With great frequency, markets offer remedial courses covering lessons they taught in previous years. That’s why one of my favorite sayings is that there’s nothing new in investing, only investment history you don’t know. In 2024 investors were provided with 12 lessons. Many of them are repeats from prior years. Unfortunately, too many investors fail to learn them - they keep making the same errors.

This webinar will go into detail on each of the 12 lessons, provide the historical evidence and behavioral insights that lead to the mistakes. With that knowledge investors can avoid making such mistakes in the future. You will learn that no one is very good at consistently getting the market forecasts right, which is why you should avoid paying attention to forecasts, and instead, adhere to your plan.

Areas Covered in the Session:

  • Why valuations cannot be used to time markets
  • All risk assets go through long periods of poor performance, which is it takes f patience and discipline to stay the course, adhering to your plan
  • Assets that experience poor performance have “self-healing” mechanisms, helping you to become subject to recency bias and have the discipline to stay the course
  • Even with a clear crystal ball as to events, markets are unpredictable
  • Allowing politics to influence investment decisions leads to poor outcomes
  • Most returns are earned over very short periods
  • Last year’s top performing asset classes are just as likely to be this year’s dogs
  • Great innovations are not always great investments
The information presented will prepare you with the wisdom you need to avoid making the behavioral errors that most investors succumb to-errors that cause investment plans to fail
